SPS Agreement
Sanitary and phytosanitary Agreement (SPS) is one of the Agreements of the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerned with food safety and animal and plant health.
SPS includes (14) Articles and (2) Appendices. The competent parties of SPS in UAE act for implementing the provisions of the agreement to ensure the streamline of movement in the agricultural commodities.
Protection and Agricultural Quarantine Department in the Ministry of Environment and Water undertakes the responsibility of receiving the notifications form the member countries of WTO through the secretariat of the organization to be discussed with the concerned authorities in the country in order to take the appropriate measures as well as sending them back to WTO for dissemination.
